Jumu’ah Khutba 3 – First Ramadhan

– opening in Arabic –

Dear brothers in Islam, first of all, I would like to remind myself and all of us to increase our iman and to thank Allah SWT for every ni’mah especially ni’mah Islam and iman so we can come to this Jumu’ah prayer. Allah SWT says in the Quran surah Ibrahim verse 7 “la insyakartum laazidannakum wa laa inkafartum inna ‘adzaabi lasyadid.” If we are thankful to Allah SWT, He will give us more and more ni’mah but if we deny, we have to remember that Allah’s will give us severe punishments. May peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad saw and his family, his followers. They spread Islam so we can know about Islam.

Today InsyaAllah ta’ala I would like share one ayah from surat Al Hujurat verse 13. Allah SWT says,

Inna khalaqnakum min zakarin wa untha, “We created you from one male and a female.” Wa ja’alnakum shu’ooban wa qabai’la li ta’arafu, “And made you peoples and nation so that you may identify each other.” Inna akramakum ‘ind-Allahi atqakum, “Indeed the best of you in the eyes of Allah are those who are God-fearing.”

There are people from Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Korea, and Indonesia. But, even we are coming from different nation, different skin color, in front of Allah, the only different is our taqwa. Allah SWT close that verse with very beautiful words, “Indeed the best of you in the eyes of Allah are those who are God-fearing, who are taqwa more to Allah SWT.”

One of the character of people of taqwa is sincere to Allah SWT. They are praying, fasting, making charity, because of Allah SWT only. So many people just perform good deed only want to be seen by people. May Allah protect us from that intention.

Alhamdulillah, today some muslims start fasting, and the other will start tomorrow. In this blessed month of Ramadhan some people recites Quran, making shadaqah, etc. But we have to remember, we should steadfast, istiqomah, not only in the month of Ramadhan but also in 11 other months. That’s also the point of sincerity. Taqwa not only in month of Ramadhan but also in 11 other months. As Rasulullah saw says in one hadeth narrated by Imam Tirmidzi, “Ittaqillah haitsu ma kunta.” Meaning, “Taqwa, fear Allah everywhere and whenever.”

Rasulullah saw also said in one hadeth narrated by Imam Muslim,

The first people to be judged on the Day of Judgement was martyred (syuhada). Allah asked him, “What have you done in the world?” The syuhada replied, “I fought for your religion.” Allah said, “You lie. You fought so that people will call you the dare one.” Finally, Allah put him in hell fire.

A seeker of knowledge that knowledge and diligent practice read the Qur’an comes before God. Allah asked, “What have you done in the world?” He replied, “I seek knowledge, act upon it, and I read the Qur’an because of Allah.”  Allah said, “You lie. You seek knowledge and you read Qur’an so that others call you religious people.” Finally, Allah put him in hell fire.

Further, one with a wealth of rich and famous because his charity come before God.  Allah asked, “What have you done in the world?” He replied, “I spent all the wealth that I have because of You.” God said, “You lie. You do it all so that people call you generous.” Finally, Allah put him in hell fire.

Rasulullah saw then said, “They are the first people to feel the heat of hell fire on the Day of Resurrection.”

So, may Allah bless us with the sincere heart and make us perform good deeds due to Allah SWT.

In this second khutba I would like remind myself and all of us to always renew our niyat, our intention. As Rasulullah saw said, “Innamal a’malu bin niyat.” Meaning , “The deeds depend on the intention.”

Syaitan will never stop whispering bad intention to our hearts. That’s why we have to more and more remember Allah SWT and renew our intention.
